Take A Fit Vacation In Jamaica At The Couples Swept Away Resort!
Posted by admin in Fitness & Exercises, Health & Nutrition, Misc., Wellness on July 17th, 2009

About a week ago I was heading to the gorgeous island of Jamaica to teach fitness classes for a week at the all-inclusive Couples Swept Away Resort. Judging from the photo gallery from the resorts website, the resort looked beautiful, but it was even more amazing in person.
If you’re a fitness enthusiast who works out even on vacation, but dread going to the resort’s fitness facility that usually involves a couple of treadmills and weight machines in a white walled room, The Couples Swept Away fitness facility will blow your mind!
I never been to a resort that had a whole fitness facility on site – and when I say whole fitness facility I mean, they have a HUGE studio where fitness classes are held twice daily. There are cardio groove classes, spin classes, body pumping classes, yoga, pilates and of course reggae abs classes.
There’s also a weight machine room that is open (no windows or doors), a lap pool where aquacize classes are held or you could do just laps, tennis courts, squash courts and a pool table.
There’s also a guest tennis instructor each week that teaches tennis lessons. So whether you want to play on your own or learn how-to play, the choice is yours.
The fitness facility also has a health bar which has declicious fresh fruit smoothies, granola bar snacks, and fresh fruit infused water (and I don’t mean bottled!). They also serve coffee, water and other health drinks.
Near the health bar is a lounge area where the sports channel is constantly on, so for those men…or women, who want to keep up to date on their sports, can. There are also locker rooms with saunas and steam rooms for both men and women.
I’m telling you, if you and a loved one are looking for the perfect getaway, but must workout – this is the place! Even if you don’t workout, the resort is all-inclusive and is just amazing.
The couple staying next to our room told us they extended their stay because they loved it so much.

Herbal Cure-All For Herpes?

While the herpes simplex virus (HSV), also known as herpes, is better known for being a sexually contracted disease, it can also show up in the form of cold sores and fever blisters. Regardless, all of ‘em are nasty buggers – and it turns out that herbs could be the cure!
A review by herbalists and medical doctors published in Alternative and Complementary Therapies shows we have reason to believe that herbs might be a step in the right direction for ailing the HSV virus.
The analysis revealed that creams containing mint (particularly lemon balm), sage, and Chinese rhubarb are a cheaper and safer option to pharmaceutical drugs for treating cold sores.
The authors said that extracts of mint, basil, peppermint, heal all (Prunella vulgaris), rosemary, sage, and thyme could also fight cold sores, while tannin- rich herbs and tea tree oil might help in preventing transmission.
The effects of herbal preparations on the more serious form of the HSV virus, genital herpes, are not as well documented. While ointments containing propolis, a mixture of compounds harvested by bees from the resin of willow trees, have yielded potentially positive reults in treating genital herpes, researchers say they still need together more evidence.

What Do Michelle Obama and Elmo Have In Common?

Healthy eating habits! First Lady Michelle Obama, visited the set of Sesame Street to talk about healthy eating with Elmo for a Public Service Announcement (PSA). The PSA is a part of Sesame Street’s “Healthy Habits For Life” iniative. The two talked about eating right, exercising regularly and why it is important for parents to be a healthy and positive role model for children. Mrs. Obama was completely “thrilled” and said at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations:
“I think it’s probably the best thing I’ve done so far in the White House. But we were there talking about nutrition and healthy eating, and it’s just been a thrill.”
Hmmm, is that so?
